Lake Gébárti

Lake Gébárti is situated in the north of Zalaegerszeg, to the north of the Zala river. The two ends of this horseshoe-shaped lake are shallow at a 0.5-3 metre depth and bordered by bushes and brush. In contrast, the central part of the lake by the dam is 8-10 metre deep. The surrounding park offers a pleasant relaxation opportunity to bathers, water sports lovers and recreational fishermen.

Zalaegerszeg’s largest artificial lake, its name derived from a vanished medieval settlement, was created to the north of the town by damming two small brooks. The works to build the reservoir in collaboration with the town citizens started in 1976, and the lake was handed over to the general public on 20 August 1979.

There are walking paths around the area and an open-air lido and a dog-lido operate on the peninsula. In the past years, the neighbourhood of the lake has become a much liked recreation and leisure zone. Near the lake, a campsite offering log cabin accommodation, caravan and tent plots in a picturesque environment can be found. Open all year round it lives up to contemporary needs.

It can be accessed from Route 76 through Andráshida or Route 74 through Ságod or Neszele.
